"Let us go to the house of the Lord"

"Let Your tender word wear a hole in the hardness of our hearts ; so as we hear Your Word frequently our hearts will be opened to rightly fear God."

From the Desert fathers.

Come and worship with us and welcome The Rev. George C. Wong, our Rector and Rev. Ken Boccino, our Deacon

The Reverend George C. Wong
February 20, 2020
A transplanted Los Angeles native, George was ordained as an Episcopal priest in the Episcopal Diocese of Washington after a career in corporate finance and international business development. After earning a B.A. in Economics and English, and an M.B.A. from UCLA, he worked for a number of Fortune 500 companies on project teams which launched international media ventures. He found it especially rewarding to build multi-national, cross-functional teams which were empowered to be creative, who worked towards realizing a shared mission and which benefited from members from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds. He adds: "The experience of carefully listening for common hopes and interests, while developing realistic and achievable goals has been relevant to and helpful as a church leader in a changing and fast moving context."

Following his graduation from Virginia Theological Seminary and ordination at the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul (Washington National Cathedral), George served as a Lilly Foundation Ministry Resident at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Bethesda, Maryland and as the Rector of Holy Trinity church in Ocean City, New Jersey. He currently serves as chair of the Education Committee of the Commission on Ministry, is a co-founder of the Denville Community Ministry and is a board member on the N.J. Corp for Widows and Widowers.

Hello, I'm Deacon Ken Boccino and am very excited to be serving the COTS Parish Family as your Deacon! I'd like to thank you all for your warm reception I've received and look forward to meeting everyone in person or virtually!

I was ordained to the Diaconate in May 2015 and served at St. George's in Maplewood during that time. My family are members of St. Peter's, Morristown, where my wife, Nerissa, currently serves as Senior Warden. I am involved with the Diocese where I serve as the Documents Chair for the Committee on the Priesthood (Commission on Ministry) and as Chair of the Marge Christie Fund for Congregational Vitality. I am also an Associate at the Community of St. John the Baptist in Medham. I volunteer as the Board Treasurer for First Friends of NJ & NY, a social service non-profit organization which provides support to detainees and asylum seekers in the 4 ICE Detention Centers located in NJ.

My weekday job, I am a Finance Program Manager at Verizon in their Business Excellence Group. Nerissa and I are long-time residents of Maplewood. Joshua, our son, is a recent graduate of George Mason University in Fairfax, VA and is working there for an engineering company. Alaina, our daughter is a recent graduate of St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA and works in northern NJ in sourcing for a large children's retail apparel company.

My warmest thanks to Rev. George Wong, the Wardens and Vestry for the invitation to serve at The Church of the Saviour. I look forward to our journey together in ministry and to see where and who God may be calling us to be in these interesting times!
Faithfully,
Rev. Deacon Ken Boccino
